Soul-sister likes to be inspired by art. Because looking at art has a certain influence on our own lives and therefore also on our online store. Art makes us think and shows us different perspectives. And this in turn leads to enthusiasm and new ideas that we apply to our collections and of course our photoshoots.

/ Eileen Gray

After years of decay and a long restoration process, E-1027, the iconic house built by Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray in 1927, is at last open to visit. Gray created the building for herself and her then-lover architect Jean Badovici as a secluded retreat clutching the French Mediterranean coastline. The house was built on a slight diagonal facing out to sea. With its horizontal white lines, funnel-like stairwell opening onto the roof and token buoy hitched to the side, it's like a modernist ship ready to set sail.

The name of this holiday home they designed together was derived from the interlinking of their initials: E for Eileen, 10 for the J of Jean, 2 for the B of Badovici, 7 for the G of Gray, the name of the villa thus interweaves their initials.

Le Corbusier (architect, designer, painter) was a friend of Badovici and visited the house several times after Badovici and Gray had parted. While staying as a guest in the house in 1938 and 1939, Le Corbusier painted several murals on its plain white walls.
